"Angels are pure thoughts from God"

Christian Science explains away whatever mystery may have surrounded the term "angels." Mrs. Eddy states in the simplest language what angels are when she writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 298), "Angels are pure thoughts from God, winged with Truth and Love, no matter what their individualism may be." The explanation does not in the slightest detract from the beauty of the term—quite the reverse. And while it takes it entirely out of the region of ambiguity, it as certainly leaves us with our angels, those messengers of God which, as the Bible show, have appeared to the spiritually-minded in all ages.

Now that Christian Science has made the position clear, now that it is known what angels are, should we not expect them to visit us, bringing directly God's messages of truth and love, those messages of divine consolation, peace, and healing of which so many are in such great need, thus fulfilling the promise of God given through Isaiah: "I, even I, am he that comforteth you"? Every one who has caught a glimpse of God as the Father; every one who has perceived, even feebly, man's sonship with God, surely longs for those divine messages; for constant divine guidance and strength are needed by all for the problems and duties of everyday life.

To enable us to understand how to entertain angels, we must become acquainted with the truth about God and His creation, man, and their relation to each other. And this Christian Science enables us to do. Christian Science teaches that God is divine Mind. Since God is divine Mind, God's creation must be spiritual; that is, creation must consist of spiritual ideas. But individual man is included in spiritual creation; man therefore must be spiritual, the spiritual idea of God. Moreover, man being the spiritual idea of God, divine Mind, the relationship between God and man is absolutely fixed and constant, a relationship which has always existed and which will continue to exist forever. Furthermore, man is the perfect image of God, divine Mind. Hence man, the real spiritual man, reflects all of God's ideas or thoughts. Thus, spiritual ideas or thoughts may be said to pass from God to man; and thus, also, does God reveal Himself to man.
