Sixteen years ago Christian Science came into my experience...
Sixteen years ago Christian Science came into my experience after all material remedies had failed. I have great cause to be grateful to God, also to the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mrs. Eddy, for the physical, moral, and spiritual benefits I have received through the right application of the divine Principle which Christian Science reveals.
A few years ago, while I was boarding in a town, a trouble manifested itself in the form of a severe abscess. A Christian Science practitioner was called to help. When she arrived, the landlady told her that I could not stay in her house overnight unless I had a doctor. All plans to get a place for me failed, and finally the practitioner told me that perhaps it would be better to call a doctor. This was accordingly done, and the landlady was satisfied with the diagnosis. The doctor was also told that I was under Christian Science treatment. After the examination he said that he would take off his hat to Christian Science, as I could not have been in a better condition if I had been in a hospital and under the care of a trained nurse and doctor. He asked how long I had had it, and was quite astonished when I said five days. He said, "It generally takes six weeks for an abscess of that nature to develop and clear itself."
This, however, is only one of many, many blessings I have received through Christian Science. It is a comfort to know that we have a Science which can stand any test that is necessary. As our dear Leader says in "The First Church of Christ, Scientists, and Miscellany" (pp. 149, 150): "Remember, thou canst be brought into no condition, be it ever so severe, where Love has not been before thee and where its tender lesson is not awaiting thee. Therefore despair not nor murmur, for that which seeketh to save, to heal, and to deliver, will guide thee, if thou seekest this guidance."
