Christian Science was first brought to my notice at a time when I felt desperately in need of something more than material aid and had a great longing for spiritual peace and understanding. I had never been physically strong, and had suffered for years from anæmia, general debility, constant colds, and a chronic cough; and as a result of a serious operation recently undergone, my nights were troubled by sleeplessness. On hearing of Christian Science I immediately procured a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and through the study of this book felt so spiritually uplifted that my mental outlook was entirely changed. Sorrow was turned into joy; fatigue and weakness gave place to energy and strength; and the sleeplessness disappeared. I at once felt that this truth discovered by Mrs. Eddy was indeed the same as taught by Jesus many centuries ago. As I pursued the study of Christian Science literature, together with the Bible, which was illumined as never before, all the forenamed physical difficulties disappeared, some very quickly and others after further study had brought more understanding of the Science involved.

Previous to knowing of Christian Science I could never read for long periods, but was obliged to rest on account of weakness of the eyes. I found I could read Mrs. Eddy's writings for indefinite periods, and as a result of this my eyes were healed. The spiritual interpretation of "eye," in the Glossary of Science and Health (p. 586), was an untold help to me in this connection. The change in my general health also was so noticeable that friends remarked upon my different appearance. From this time onward Truth became my physician; and I laid aside all material remedies and drugs, although I had formerly been a confirmed believer in them.

Two years later, at a time when Spanish influenza was prevalent, I suffered from a severe attack of this malady and felt a great fear of death. For days I clung to the thought of God as my Life; and the fever abated and complete healing resulted. Much comfort was derived during this period from the hymns of our dear Leader. I experienced none of the so-called after effects of this disease.
