In loving gratitude for benefits received from reading...
In loving gratitude for benefits received from reading testimonies in the Sentinel and Journal, I herewith send my testimony, with the hope that it will be of benefit to others.
In January, 1911, I took up the study of Christian Science for physical healing. Having been an invalid for twelve years, I found it very difficult to believe that life is not in the so-called material body. Naturally I had to change my way of thinking entirely from a material to a spiritual basis; consequently, my healing was slow. I had been troubled with a dislocated hip for several years, and had tried osteopathic treatments without success. This condition was healed by the first Christian Science treatment, and has not troubled me since. I was healed of stomach and bowel trouble, for which it had been necessary to use material remedies daily for years. I was also healed of a chronic organic trouble for which I had received no help from materia medica, and of nervous exhaustion. In fact, I had suffered so much, and was in such a weakened and nervous condition when Christian Science found me, that it seemed as if life were not worth living. I could walk only a few steps, and sit up but a short time; so I spent practically all my time on a couch. All the years since then Truth has been my only physician, and I have never used material remedies.
It would be impossible for me to tell all that Christian Science has done for me. It has changed my whole outlook on life. It has changed me from a despairing invalid to a well, happy woman, able to do my work in the world. I am so grateful to the loving practitioners who have helped me at various times; to Mrs. Eddy for all of her writings; for the literature and the Lesson-Sermons, which help us to solve our problems; and for class instruction. For the understanding of the God of love, "who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases," who is ever present and all-powerful, and for the peace that passes understanding, I am more grateful than words can express.
