I feel that my gratitude would not be completely expressed...
I feel that my gratitude would not be completely expressed if I did not send this testimony, as it may help some one. Overhearing an invitation which was given to a member of my family to call at the office of a Christian Science practitioner, an impulse prompted me to go also. No time could be given me by the practitioner; but as we were about to depart, the practitioner very lovingly and emphatically said, "God is Love." To me, an unbeliever in God, these words were most unusual. Persistently they remained with me all that night and the next day. In answer to my desire for an explanation of them, the "still small voice" prompted me to borrow the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. At that time it was quite an effort to go to the Reading Room; but I was anxious to have the book, and did go and procure it. This was indeed the turning point in my life. Never can I forget when I began to read this wonderful book. Every word seemed to be meant especially for me. For the first time in my life I prayed, not to an "unknown God," but to our living God.
Previous to this time I had been almost blind for a short period. While I could but dimly discern other printed matter, I was able without difficulty to read Science and Health. Physicians had predicted that eventually I would lose my sight completely; but after two or three days' reading of Science and Health I found my eyesight had been restored. Backache, which at times confined me to bed for weeks, as well as chronic stomach trouble, which I had had for many years, vanished.
Not satisfied with the healing, I wanted to know what had made it possible. I found it was the renewal or regeneration of my thought through the understanding which came to me from reading the textbook.
