I did not come to Christian Science for healing, but to...
I did not come to Christian Science for healing, but to have several questions concerning the enigma of mortal existence answered. Many of my questions have been answered; and I know that as I continue to study daily, all will be. Christian Science has healed me of many ills, and has given me an entirely different outlook upon life. It has given me a wonderful standard to live by, and has taught me how to love my fellow-men. I had such a different sense of love and friendship before taking up the study of Christian Science.
My first healing in Christian Science was that of stomach trouble, from which I had been a constant sufferer since childhood. After studying for some time and not being able to overcome the trouble by my own study, I called for help from a practitioner. I was healed in one visit; but it seemed too good to be true, and I feared to tell the practitioner to stop treatment, so continued treatments for a week, at the end of which time all the fear had vanished. I have also been healed of several other ailments, sometimes with help from another, and sometimes by earnest and faithful study of the Bible, together with "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy and her other published writings, and the Christian Science periodicals.
There came a time in my experience when I wanted to know the whole of Truth at once, and I began to worry. My path seemed blocked, and error seemed more real to me than Truth. I seemed to be doubting. Then encouraging words and help from older students of this beautiful truth helped me to the realization of the fact that I was on the right path; and this removed fear, and brought about the orderly unfoldment of problems which I have been able to solve myself, thus far on my journey from sense to Soul, by clinging steadfastly to my books. I have learned that I not only must read but must endeavor to put into practice, in so far as I understand it, the truth that I read.
