"Be of good cheer"

The continued study of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, develops an inward, unshaken conviction of the supremacy of good in every situation, in the face of all arguments to the contrary. Likewise, it develops the ability to hold to and maintain this conviction until these false arguments cease. It is discouraging to an evil argument to find an individual who has no intention of accepting it, but who, on the contrary, knows deep down in his consciousness that there is nothing eternal about discord!

This final persuasion of the supremacy of good may come precipitately, as in discerning the answer to a problem suddenly, or it may unfold itself to human thought so deliberately and so gently as to be hardly noticeable. In the latter case one may not know until tested how much real progress he has made. Truth may have unfolded in thought like the opening of rosebuds.

This affirmative state of thought, this appreciation of true being, this unswerving allegiance to the perfect creator and His perfect creation is the result of spiritual understanding, which is the gift of God and the reward of faithful application of the "few things" we have, and by which we are made to realize in a degree that "now are we the sons of God." It is easily seen how far removed this is from blind faith and from all superstition. This understanding, when unfolded to us, is our own for all time, and rests on no human opinion or belief. It is infinite intelligence expressing itself through our individuality, and can never be reversed, obstructed, defeated, or obscured. The good thus made our own is foreordained and predestined to bring about the expression of more and more of good, since progress is the law of good, irresistible and irreversible.
