[Written for the Sentinel]

"Our daily bread"

"Give us this day our daily bread."
From seeking heart the prayer ascends,
And thought relinquishes the ends
Once falsely sought, and bows the head;
No longer self with service blends.

"Give us this day our daily bread."
Then Love its angel-bounty sends,
And plenty to the humble lends;
For who shall lack, when all are fed
By Spirit's all for Spirit's ends?

"Give us this day our daily bread."
And as to Love's design it bends,
The willing heart, divinely led,
With Love's own plan its purpose blends,
And hourly from Love's store is fed,—
