My deep gratitude to God and to our beloved Leader for...
My deep gratitude to God and to our beloved Leader for Christian Science cannot be measured by any words I could write, for it brought me out of darkness into light. I had all but lost my faith in God, as I knew Him, and nothing seemed to satisfy my insatiable longing for an ever present, ever loving God.
I feel that I was divinely led. For almost fourteen years we had a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy in our home. This was given to my father when I was a girl by a grateful friend whom he had led to Science, and who was healed. I had read some in this book when my father first received it, but it was laid away as something over our heads. A few years ago I resigned my position here merely as the outcome of a desire to get somewhere, in a material sense. I was always striving to be satisfied, but the human plans I made went awry. The position I eventually took in Chicago placed me among girls who were Christian Scientists. The first meal I age in my new environment was with a strange girl who asked me if I would like to go to church that Wednesday evening. It was blessed Christian Science church; and coming away from that blessed meeting I knew I had found the "bread of life." That night I wrote home for our copy of Science and Health, and to-day this book is my most treasured possession.
To be grateful only for finding the way would seem remiss, for since coming into Science I have just begun to live. I have always had material means to make me happy, but they never seemed to make the joy last. In Science my joy is never ending, for I have God. With the help of a loving practitioner I have been healed of astigmatism which necessitated my wearing glasses. I am also grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a Christian Science Society, and each day finds me thankful for the healing of seeming defects in character.
