The Lectures
Chicago, Illinois (Eleventh Church).
Lecturer: Dr. Walton Hubbard; introduced by Mrs. Agnes Thompson Gilbert, who said:—
Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science and the author of its textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," writes on page 110: "Jesus demonstrated the power of Christian Science to heal mortal minds and bodies. But this power was lost sight of, and must again be spiritually discerned, taught, and demonstrated according to Christ's command, with 'signs following.' " In the fourteenth chapter of the book of Acts it is recorded that while Paul was preaching the gospel there sat a certain man at Lystra who was without strength in his feet, being crippled from birth. Paul, perceiving his faith, commanded him to stand upright on his feet; and he then walked and leaped. A little boy in our family who was injured at birth was unable to walk. His parents, believing in materia medica at that time, turned to the physician without results. Other methods of healing were tried, and they also failed. As a last resort help was asked in Christian Science, and the child was perfectly healed. It is this message of healing which Christian Science brings to humanity to-day, enabling all who accept it to stand upright and free.
