If it were possible for me to express in words my gratitude...

If it were possible for me to express in words my gratitude to Mary Baker Eddy for giving us "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" I would do so; but I can only give in part my appreciation of one with such a noble and unselfish character.

I was in bondage to materia medica for many years, and was in a critical condition when I took up Christian Science. I understood it was a religion of prayer. I believed in prayer, but could not understand why so many of my prayers were not answered. Now I realize they were not prayers, but pleadings to an unknown God. How happy I was when I gained the understanding that "desire is prayer," as Mrs. Eddy tells us on page 1 of Science and Health.

I came to Christian Science for physical help. I had tuberculosis. The physician said my left lung was entirely gone, and I could live only a short time on what was left of the right one. He gave my parents hope of a short time if I could be sent to a sanatorium. Instead, however, I decided to try Christian Science, so borrowed a copy of Science and Health and read in it all one evening. The next morning I arose feeling very strong and walked through the house; this I had not been able to do for some time. I never experienced another hemorrhage, and realized that my healing had come. Since that time, which was about eight years ago, I have depended entirely on Christian Science. What could be more comforting to the sick and sorrowing than to know they have their physician ever by their side, and can always have immediate help?
