One evening in February, 1923, I came home from work, and on sitting down to supper experienced a severe pain in my right lung. It seemed to be only with great difficulty that I could get my breath. I spent the night in pain, but did not use any material remedies, as my daughter, who is a member of The Mother Church, and I had learned that the use of such things, "forfeits divine help" (see Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 453). In the morning my daughter sent for a practitioner, and I was freed from pain and was breathing easily within ten minutes after he arrived. It was, however, a bad attack of pneumonia, and for two days I was delirious. I lost all strength in my legs, so that I could not stand. The practitioner spent three nights at the house to comfort, and to quiet the fears of my wife and daughter. I was completely healed within ten days, and shortly afterwards returned to my work as janitor in a public school.
I am now in better health than I have been for years, and have not missed a day's work since this experience. My wife and daughter have also had many healings in Christian Science. The daily study of the Bible and Science and Health is giving me a greater understanding of the allness of God, which Christ Jesus came to declare. I am grateful to Mrs. Eddy, through whose unselfish labor of love the truth was revealed in this age, and am also grateful to the loving practitioner.—Daniel R. Wilber, Los Angeles, California.
