Easter Gladness

ON that fair Easter morning,
In th' holy long ago,
When Jesus rose triumphant
O'er every seeming foe,

Was not the sunshine brighter,
Pervading one and all?
Did not the joyous bird notes
With sweeter cadence fall?

Did not the happy lilies
More wide their fragrance fling?
On that glad Easter morning,
Did not all nature sing?

Within each tiny dewdrop
Did not a rainbow gleam,
And a diviner glory
Shine through this earthly dream?

And so, to thought awakened,
Earth's beauties shine more fair;
We walk in Love's dear presence,
And breathe diviner air.

And oh, the happy wonder—
The Christ, Truth, lives for aye.
Its tender love and blessing
Make Easter joy each day.
