It is some years since the beautiful teaching of Christian Science...
It is some years since the beautiful teaching of Christian Science was explained to me, but I did not take up the study until about three and a half years ago. For some time previous to this the discordant conditions of my life had been so acute that I felt the only way open to me was to turn to Christian Science. I had been a regular attendant of another church, but there were times when I seemed to be surrounded by darkness, and God seemed far away. I now realize that God is our ever present Father-Mother God, to whom we can turn in every difficulty.
I should like to tell of one healing which I had during the first year of my study. There was a discharge from both of my ears, with inflammation and a feeling of great pressure from within. These conditions had lasted about six months when I asked a practitioner for help, which was given. There were times when the pain and irritation were very severe; but looking back over my past life, I felt that I had all to gain and nothing to lose by deciding to depend on God, and God alone. After one treatment the practitioner told me that the cause of the trouble was mental, and showed me so clearly that I was a child of God, and that error had no power to hurt me, that my thought was filled with a sense of gratitude. I learned Mrs. Eddy's hymn beginning, "Shepherd, show me how to go" (Poems, p. 14), and repeated daily, "I will listen for Thy voice;" and after a time the healing came.
My youngest child, who had been extremely delicate from birth, was very much helped by this study, and when asked, not long ago, if she liked to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, she replied, "Yes; I used to be always falling over, and hurting my knees, but I do not do that now."
