[Written for the Sentinel]

Restoration

THERE was once a neglected garden,
A garden o'ergrown with weeds
Of resentment, hatred, and malice,
Resulting in sinful deeds.

The harvest that came from this garden
Was sorrow, sickness, and sin.
It was watered with tears of anguish;
No sunshine entered therein.

One came and plowed deep in this garden,
With a song of faith and love,
Uprooting the weeds of wrong thinking,
And sowing seed from above.

Then there grew in this selfsame garden,
Because of the loving care,
Blossoms of hope and thanksgiving,—

T was watered by tears of repentance,
The love of God was its sun,
And peace, joy, and love were its fruitage,
When the work at last was done.
