Twenty years ago I was healed of tuberculosis of the lungs in a severe stage through Christian Science treatments and my own study and endeavor to apply the truths of this teaching. My testimony was published in the Sentinel about fifteen years ago.
In May of last year, I received a healing that must convince any one of the value of clinging to the fact that God is our Life. On that date I was caught and crushed between two steel plates, eight by thirty feet, and one half inch in thickness. The right side of my collar bone was broken, as were also two ribs and the clavicle. The two ribs entered my right lung, puncturing the lung. I was semiconscious for about an hour, but during that time I was able to recognize one of the men who worked with me and to call for Christian Science treatment. A practitioner reached me about three hours after the accident. I was cared for in the United States hospital at the Puget Sound Navy Yard. After being there fifteen days under Christian Science treatment, I was able to return to my home and to care for myself. In sixty days from the date of the injury I returned to my work as a painter in the Navy Yard.
To-day there are no visible effects from this injury, all the bones involed having been perfectly set through the understanding of Christian Science as applied by a faithful practitioner. This normal condition of the bones was proved by an X-ray photograph taken by a surgeon at the end of the first week following the accident. The physicians at the hospital were very kind to me. They did not urge me to take medicine, and none was taken or applied. The only thing done to me in a surgical way was the binding of my right hand to my chest when leaving the hopital two weeks after the injury. My case is on record at the hospital mentioned.
