At the time when I took up the study of Christian Science,...
At the time when I took up the study of Christian Science, which was in 1909, I was indeed in great need of help, both physically and spiritually. I was despondent, discouraged, and sick most of the time; but after taking up the study of Christian Science, I found that it was the truth that makes one free from discordant conditions. I learned that God is not the author of these false conditions; that He does not send both good and evil, to bless or to punish us, as I had been taught in my younger days. For the revelation that God is good alone I am deeply grateful.
I have had many wonderful healings since taking up this study, one of which was the healing of grief. At that time I asked for the help of a practitioner, who lovingly and faithfully stood by me while I was passing through deep waters. At another time I was healed instantaneously of ptomaine poisoning through the work of the same practitioner. There were no ill effects after this healing.
In 1915, my daughter was taken very ill with what the physicians' diagnosis claimed to be typhoid fever. She was at her husband's home, about four hundred miles away, so they telephoned for me to go to her. When I reached her bedside in a hospital the first words she said to me were, "If I have to stay here, I shall surely die." I said, "Do not fear; Love will take you home;" and I wrote to a practitioner for help. At first the physician said he could not think of letting her travel that distance on a train, as she had had two hemorrhages; but she and I knew that "with God all things are possible." We worked through the night, and the next morning he said he thought we could go home. She seemed better, but in a few days grew worse, and her husband insisted on having a physician and a nurse,—but all to no avail. The physician informed us that he had done all in his power, and said she would pass on before morning. We again called for Science help; and in three weeks she was able to be up and around the house. Since then she has become a member of a branch church and has had class instruction.
