When I first took up the study of Christian Science, I...

When I first took up the study of Christian Science, I was a physical and nervous wreck. I could not sleep, eat, or content myself in any way. Fear had a great hold upon me, and my nights were a torture. After considerable argument I consented to visit a Christian Science practitioner; and when she explained that God is divine Mind, I readily accepted it, although it had never occurred to me before. In a brief way she spoke of the great truths that Christian Science teaches, and asked me if I wished to be treated. I did not have the least idea what she meant; but I consented, and was handed "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy to read while being treated. I never knew when it happened, but I fell asleep. When I awoke I started to apologize for sleeping in her office; but she only smiled, and assured me that it was all right. From that day, Christian Science has been to me one grand awakening. I knew I was healed, although I did not manifest health immediately. Since that time I have been healed of hay fever, indigestion, smoking, and many of the annoying beliefs that usually accompany a nervous breakdown.

I have learned to know that Christian Science is for you and me; and as Mrs. Eddy says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 19): "He who has named the name of Christ, who has virtually accepted the divine claims of Truth and Love in divine Science, is daily departing from evil; and all the wicked endeavors of suppositional demons can never change the current of that life from steadfastly flowing on to God, its divine source." Gratitude is best expressed in daily living; so I am trying to attest my deep gratitude to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, by devoutly attending to the duties and demands of my time for the Cause of Christian Science, and for mankind.
