During the summer of 1919 I lost the sight of one eye...

During the summer of 1919 I lost the sight of one eye and had only very partial sight with the other; so that it was with great inconvenience I could do even a small task. I had attended Christian Science services and had read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, but thought a case like this was too much for Christian Science, and feared to trust myself to its practice. I therefore decided it would be safer to have advice from an eye specialist. This was done; and I was at once put under medical treatment. The doctors told me there was a hemorrhage behind the eyes, for which I should have had treatment years before. They were both very kind and did their best for me; but after six months' treatment there was little improvement. They told me they had done all they could, and said there would be a repetition of the trouble and the sight would never be improved.

After the above treatment had failed, I turned absolutely to Christian Science. I went to see a practitioner and asked for help, which was most lovingly given; and there was gradually unfolded to me my true vision, and what eyes and sight are, as stated by Mrs. Eddy in the Christian Science textbook. As this gradually unfolded to consciousness, so did sight return. There were times when there seemed to be little improvement; but the help given by the practitioner dispelled the night of gloom, and then came the glorious liberty of a child of God; and my sight was as good as ever. I have had no return of the difficulty.

Needless to say, I am indeed very grateful for the blessings received from Christian Science; grateful to Mrs. Eddy for her work to mankind in showing man's relationship to God; and grateful to the practitioner who so lovingly helped me to obtain this knowledge.—(Mrs.)Bertha Henrys, Heaton Mersey, Manchester, England.
