New Age

The purpose of Mary Baker Eddy in establishing the Christian Science church was, in her own words, "To organize a church designed to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing" (Church Manual, p. 17). That church, with its various branch churches throughout the world, is, Christian Scientists believe, the greatest power for good in the world to-day, and its establishment was rendered possible only by the courage, self-sacrifice, and obedience of Mrs. Eddy.

Mrs. Eddy knew that the method of Christian Science healing could be demonstrated only in proportion as one gained the Mind of Christ, and that that could be acquired only as one entered the straight and narrow way of Truth. Mrs. Eddy has pointed out the narrowness of the path, and enjoined her students to walk in it.
