I have been a student of Christian Science for fifteen years...
I have been a student of Christian Science for fifteen years. During that period I have turned to it for help and guidance in every difficulty, and it has never failed.
I was considered delicate all my life, and was for many years laid up the greater part of every winter with severe attacks of influenza and all sorts of after effects. Nervous and easily depressed, I was so afraid of losing my little daughter that she was a subject of more anxiety to me than joy; and I was horribly afraid of the prospect of having to grow old, probably become ill, and finally die. Different churches. though kindly, only gave me promises for a future world, and what I wanted was help here and now. I felt there must be somewhere a clearer knowledge of God than I had found, and I often earnestly prayed for it. Then Christian Science came to me and opened the very gates of heaven. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy brought me the "pearl of great price," the knowledge of God I had longed for. I thought I should suffer again, and was a little disappointed to find I could. Then, as the Science of Christianity became clearer, I saw that what I learned must be proved step by step. Many were the mental struggles encountered in attempts to "put off the old man" and to "put on the new;" but divine Love opened the way, and although healing has not always been quick, it has been very sure.
With help from a Christian Science practitioner influenza was completely overcome, the first attack in a few days. Subsequent symptoms were checked very quickly; and the last appearance of this ailment, about five years ago, was routed instantaneously. With the gentle guidance of the same practitioner, other troublesome habits of thought have left me; pleurisy, chilblains, and supposedly inherited tendency to rheumatism have been banished; and I am finding strength and fitness for all my day's work.
