Words cannot express my gratitude for the physical...
Words cannot express my gratitude for the physical healing received from the study of Christian Science; but I am most grateful for the mental uplift, and the knowledge that God is an ever present help in time of trouble. I am also grateful that with this knowledge came the understanding that we have this ever present help whenever we strive unceasingly to be about the Father's business.
I first began the study of Christian Science after physicians had given me only a short time to live, unless I would submit to amputation of one of the lower limbs. This I would not do; and it was then that Christian Science was presented to me. After about three weeks' treatment I was able to be back at my work, although the material evidence did not disappear for some time. My condition improved steadily, until I was entirely healed.
After this healing had been accomplished and I had been enjoying good health for some time, I became careless about studying the Lesson-Sermon, and very irregular in attendance at church. In fact, I was doing the same as nine of the ten lepers whom Jesus healed. It is recorded in the seventeenth chapter of Luke: "And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, and fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: ...And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger." And of this occurrence Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 94), "Of the ten lepers whom Jesus healed, but one returned to give God thanks,—that is, to acknowledge the divine Principle which had healed him." When I finally realized that I was failing to "acknowledge the divine Principle," I turned again to Christian Science, and found in the Bible the exact rule whereby we may have abundant supply for all our needs: "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Since then I have been earnestly striving to live up to my understanding of Christian Science, and my reward has indeed been bountiful.
