Some time ago, an arc welding outfit, more commonly known as an electric welding machine, was added to the equipment of the Lighthouse Buoy Depot at which I am employed. Having occasion to operate it, and being unfamiliar with the effects upon the naked eye of the rays given off from the electric arc, I attempted to make a repair upon a certain piece of work, neglecting to take the usual precaution of wearing a metal helmet provided with several plates of varicolored glass, which is used to neutralize the effect of the light upon the naked eye. I succeeded in making the necessary repair, and at the time did not notice any ill effects upon my eyes.

I finished the work about half past two in the afternoon, and at five o'clock returned to my home, apparently in excellent health. After supper I sat down and read the newspaper until about half past eight, retiring shortly afterwards; still apparently in good health. However, about eleven o'clock my eyes were smarting and burning, and felt as though they were full of fine sand; and I was totally blind. In despair I arose and applied cold water to the sightless eyes—all to no avail. I became desperate, and my wife and I, after talking the matter over, decided that the best thing to do was to notify a Christian Science practitioner of my plight. My wife read in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and we repeated the "scientific statement of being," to be found on page 468, until daylight, when I was able to get out and call for help. We had previously received great help through Christian Science treatment. Twenty-four hours elapsed, as nearly as I can remember, from the time I notified the practitioner until I fully realized that my sight was saved. The pain began to abate at once. In two days' time my sight was fully restored to me; and I firmly believe that nothing but the power of God, scientifically applied, saved me.

I am sending this testimony to you to be used as you may see fit, that any one afflicted similarly may know that when the power of God is rightly invoked through Christian Science, we need never despair of aid.
