Morning Herald

Not long ago some one, designated as a drugless healer, was reported in your columns as testifying in your county court that his method of treatment was equivalent to Christian Science and its success lay in getting people to get their minds off their ills and thinking they were all right. Regardless of the fact that this "healer" may be quite sincere in his belief, information at hand and the statement quoted indicate that his methods of treatment involve human willpower and forms of suggestion, which are the very opposite of Christian Science.

As there are others who entertain this erroneous view regarding the nature of Christian Science, kindly permit me to say that "will-power," as Mrs. Eddy points out in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 206), "is capable of all evil," while Christian Science is not subject to such use at all. Christian Science treatment involves regeneration through spiritual understanding. Such understanding brings to human consciousness the clear distinction between spiritual reality on the one hand, and material unreality on the other, including the manifestations called sickness and disease, which are the products of human belief, and are not creations nor visitations of divine Mind. In Christian Science the ills of humanity are not merely ignored, but corrected by the realization that God did not create them. Such realization includes, however, much more than a mere belief that they are unreal. Here is where the light of spiritual truth must become operative and do its own work, as declared by Christ Jesus in the oft-quoted statement, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Christian Science, therefore, has the fundamental basis of being Christian in teaching, and scientifically true in practice.
