My heart is filled with gratitude for all the blessings...

My heart is filled with gratitude for all the blessings Christian Science has brought to me and mine. Seven years ago I was healed in a wonderful way. I had been in ill health for more than a year. There seemed to be a great pressure on my head, and at times I thought I should go insane. My wife, who was studying Christian Science, had tried her best to have me become interested in it; but although I was not opposed to its teachings, I still remained indifferent.

One morning I arose before any of my family, and thought I would end it all. The pain in the head had become so intense that I felt I must do something. So I left a note to my family saying good-bye. I remember taking a street car to the square, and then walking until I felt I should drop with fatigue. I then took another car. I remember the conductor collecting my fare; then I remembered no more until he came and shook me, saying I must get off as we were at the end of the line. I do not remember how I got off, but I know my feet seemed to be, oh, so heavy as I walked along not knowing or caring where I went. I must have traveled on the interurban cars from Cleveland (my home at that time) to Detroit, the home of my nephew, for he found me on the street there and said, "Hello, Uncle." He afterwards told me my face was purple and badly swollen, and the veins on my neck were large. He took me to his home at once. My niece, who is a Christian Scientist, realized the truth and put me to bed, and began reading to me from the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. She said that in half an hour I was sound asleep; then they telephoned by long distance to my family.

My wife on coming downstairs and finding me gone knew something very serious had happened; for our home life had always been a happy one. She at once got in touch with a practitioner, and asked if Christian Science would help her. The answer came back, "'Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need' (Science and Health, p. 494), and nothing is lost to God." So I was guided to the home of the only relative who was interested in Christian Science. The next day my wife came to Detroit. I was up when she came, but still felt great pressure on my head. It being Wednesday, my niece asked if I would like to go to the testimony meeting. I did so, and can never forget the impression of that service. It brought such a sense of peace to me, and I felt God's presence with me. The ushers, too, brought me inspiration. After church, when we were outside, I turned to my wife and niece, and said: "I will never worship in any other church again. I want to be a Christian Scientist." After we reached home my nose began to bleed and some blood clots dropped out of my mouth. After that the pain and pressure, which had been troubling me for a year, entirely disappeared. I was healed. I was able to go home the next day, and to take up my business on Monday.
