Signs of the Times

[Rev. E. Lester Ballard, in the Methodist Protestant, Baltimore, Md., Nov. 14, 1923]

Does the Lord heal? ... Dare we question it, when God's Word declares, "The prayer of faith shall save the sick"? ... We all ... believe it to some extent, for among the first ones called to the bedside of a sick one, especially if his condition is precarious, is a minister of the gospel, who is asked to pray for him. To what purpose are such prayers, if there is n't a belief on the part of the sick, as well as his loved ones, that the prayer will be the medium to restore health? I'll refuse to respond to sick calls when I fail to believe that prayer in their behalf is efficacious. Prayer under such circumstances would be mockery. God has healed when the most competent physicians have done their best and declared the case beyond human redemption. God has answered the intercessory prayers of the righteous, and healed the sick, in many instances, and has not been given the credit for it nor received the praise due Him.
