Sunday American

An article which appeared in the Sunday American spoke of healing sickness with mind, and mentioned Christian Science in this connection. One who is unacquainted with the truth might be led to infer that Christian Scientists depend upon the human mind to cure disease. This, however, is not true. In order to heal by spiritual means, it is necessary to imbibe the spirit of Christ; in other words, to "let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus." As understood in Christian Science, all real healing is accomplished by divine Mind.

The writer of the article stated that he studied "Science and Health with Key to Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, but (unfortunately) was not able to understand it; so, instead of continuing the study of the book, he decided that he would rather be sick than believe in what he termed "metaphysical moonshine." The language used in Science and Health is the new tongue of which the Bible speaks; and it is necessary to obtain an understanding of this spiritual language to get the benefits. Many who did not immediately grasp the meaning of Mary Baker Eddy's writing have continued to study Science and Health, and have discerned the truth, have seen at least some of the metaphysical sunshine, and are enjoying at this time what they did not experience before looking into Christian Science,—namely, health and happiness. Because of her persistent study of the Bible, Mrs. Eddy discovered how the Master healed the sick, thereby solving what to others had seemed a "problem." She has given this discovery to the world; and all who will may partake of this spiritual information. In Science and Health (p. 176), Mrs. Eddy makes the following statement: "When the mechanism of the human mind gives place to the divine Mind, selfishness and sin, disease and death, will lose their foothold." This is a simple explanation, which shows Christian Science healing to be based on a spiritual foundation.
