Science, versus Theory
Christian Scientists rejoice that the divine Principle which Christian Science elucidates can be proved, through study and right application, to be indeed scientific. It matters not what phase of inharmony confronts them, the students of this infallible Science find that all false beliefs succumb, as the understanding of the omnipotence of Principle, God, is established in consciousness. Thus, there dawns upon the thought an increased understanding and a growing appreciation of God as divine Mind, Spirit, the Lawgiver, and a working comprehension of the fundamental law of true being, as stated by Mrs. Eddy in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 417), in the words, "All causation is Mind, acting through spiritual law."
Recently, much space has been devoted in the newspapers to reports of tests being made in the field of so-called material science in the effort to establish the Einstein theory. This reputed new discovery seems to contradict Newton's theory of gravitation; and, if substantiated, it will reverse many of the hypotheses of natural science heretofore accepted as basic. The material scientists are naturally devoting themselves assiduously to the tests now being made, because by the outcome of these tests their future work and calculations will be greatly influenced.
In its contention that gravity is not what it has been believed to be, the Einstein theory is more than fifty years behind the statement made in 1866 by a spiritually-minded New England woman as the result of unselfish research into the Word of God. On page 124 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy says: "Adhesion, cohesion, and attraction are properties of Mind. They belong to divine Principle, and support the equipoise of that thought-force, which launched the earth in its orbit and said to the proud wave, 'Thus far and no farther.'" Christian Scientists have for many years subjected this declaration to numerous tests; and their lives bear testimony to the fact that they understand it to be the truth about the law of being. Many can say that as study of this Science is faithfully and persistently pursued, all questions, doubts, and fears are logically, scientifically answered.
