Ever since I was old enough to read the Bible, the fact...
Ever since I was old enough to read the Bible, the fact that the healing works of Jesus were not continued to our day and time had been a perplexing problem to me. I remember asking my mother about it. She replied that she did not think there was any one with a faith great enough. I was far from satisfied with that answer.
It was several years later before we heard of Christian Science. My mother having become insane, a dear friend and neighbor asked us to try Christian Science. My father consented, as there seemed to be nothing else to do. She was completely healed. The practitioner had told me that I could help by reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy; and being eager to do all I could for my dear mother, I began reading, little knowing what was in store for me. At that time I had a very gloomy outlook on life. I was just reaching womanhood, a time that is supposed to be the happiest of one's life. I was anything but happy. Indeed, I often retired at night hoping I would never awaken. After I took up the study of Christian Science my disposition began to change; and I am filled with gratitude for this wonderful truth that has brought light and joy into my life, where before all seemed darkness.
I was healed of catarrh of the nose and throat. My sense of smell, which had gone, was fully restored. At the age of six months my baby had an attack of inflammation of the bowels. I treated her, but she did not seem to improve; so I called on a neighbor for help, but she was not successful either. One evening my husband, who is not a Scientist, came home and said something had to be done, or he would call a doctor. I went to the telephone and tried to get the practitioner who usually helped me, but she was not at home. The child seemed to be getting worse, so I called another practitioner, who kindly told me she would help us until I could get in touch with the one whom I had first called. This was about ten o'clock at night. At twelve o'clock the child seemed to be passing away. I again tried to call the practitioner I had first turned, to, and this time was successful. She lovingly told me she would do what she could. As I was nearly exhausted, I lay down with the child at my side and dropped off to sleep. At two o'clock I awoke, and the child looked natural. I fed her, and she went to sleep. The next day she was perfectly healed. To say that I am grateful for this proof of God's goodness and power does not adequately express my deep gratitude.
