After the birth of our second child, through carelessness...
After the birth of our second child, through carelessness blood poisoning set in. I had had help in Christian Science at one time, but had "drifted back," thinking that Christian Science could never help me at a time like this. The good seed had been sown, however; for I asked to be taken home, and immediately called for Christian Science treatment and employed a Christian Science nurse. In three weeks I was up and doing all my own housework, besides caring for the children. We have been told many times by friends in the medical profession that a healing of this kind was not possible under medical treatment.
I should like to tell of two other remarkable healings. My husband was healed of a strangulated rupture in ten days. On account of the Workingmen's Compensation Law, it was necessary to call a physician. He informed us that it would be months before my husband would be able to work. We called for Christian Science help, and in ten days he was up and drove the automobile forty-five miles. When the physician heard of this he was appalled, and told him he would be sorry; that he had better get to bed, if he knew what was good for him!
The other was the healing of one of the children. I had just tightened the electric wringer and had left the room for something, when I heard a scream. I rushed back and found that the child had caught his hand in the wringer. The hand and forearm had gone through before I had presence of mind enough to hit the release on top of the wringer. As soon as I did this the child fell back into my arms. He seemed to be in great pain, and I rushed to the telephone to ask for Christian Science help. I could not get the practitioner, however, and realized I had "my own" work to do. I voiced the truth as I never voiced it before; and in about twenty minutes the child fell asleep and slept three hours. When he awoke he asked to be allowed to go out and play, and did not mention his arm at all. The only sign of injury was a bruise about three inches long on the arm. I was most grateful for this healing, especially since it was brought about without the help of a practitioner.
