In one of your recent issues there appeared a letter under the heading, "Faith-healing at Lourdes," in which Christian Science is referred to. The cause of the cures in Christian Science is not to be "found in some latent physical strength in the patient brought out emotional stimulus," as suggested, nor are these cures accomplished through belief in the power of the human will. Christian Science accomplish the healing on the basis of the teaching and works of Christ Jesus, through acceptance of his unfailing promises, and in obedience to his commands. They recognize that he came to reveal that which materialism untiringly endeavors to obscure and obliterate; namely the truth about God, man, and all created things. They understand that the Master's discernment of eternal verities, as they exist in the sight of God, made him "the light of the world," his vision of the true concept of being dispelling the darkness of sin, disease, and death. In proportion to their understanding of the Saviour's promise, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," Christian Scientists are enabled to heal the sick and destroy sin and suffering. They joyfully realize that as this revelation of Truth floods the human consciousness, and man is discovered in the image and likeness of God, reflecting His power, perfection, and glory, infinite possibilities for the race will unfold.
