Christian Science is true Christianity, the Christianity of the Bible, the Christianity taught and practiced by the Man of Galilee, Jesus the Christ. Christian Science is therefore based on the Holy Scriptures. It emphasizes the First Commandment of the Decalogue, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me," and the command of Christ Jesus, "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." Christian Science does not set at naught any of the essential teachings of either the Old or the New Testament Scriptures. It proclaims one God, even the God who, Mrs. Eddy says, "is universal, eternal, divine Love, which changeth not and causeth no evil, disease, nor death" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 140). It teaches the divinity of the Christ and the atonement; it teaches that mortals are saved from sin,—hate, resentment, ill-will, strife, malice, and so on,—through Christ.
