Christian Science proved to me that "the darkest hour...

Christian Science proved to me that "the darkest hour precedes the dawn." It was just when I had come to the conclusion that life was such a hopeless farce it was no longer worth living, that an acquaintance told me about Christian Science; and the dawn transcended in loveliness anything I could have imagined. After the first reading of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, my one aim was to go forward and never look back. That was fourteen months ago. My life is now a complete reversal, mentally and physically, of what it was. Having lost my health for years, I now appreciate it beyond words. After four treatments, I left off glasses, which I had been compelled to wear for sixteen years. About two months ago, with treatment from a practitioner, I was cured of a severe attack of measles and influenza in four days. Never can I be grateful enough for the loving help and guidance of this practitioner, which has brought about a wonderful change in my life.

Six months after we came into Science, through our very small knowledge of the truth my brother and I were able to stop completely what was proving to be a devastating bush fire, after it had gained a firm hold and was being driven at a fearful rate before a gale lasting three days, which uprooted trees and caused houses to rock on their foundations. It was a revelation to us, a perfect proof of that "omnipotence of Truth, which illustrates the impotence of error" (Science and Health, p. 454). A month later, through these same teachings, I was able to stop a bolting horse and thereby save my life.

I am unceasingly grateful to God for the blessings He has poured out upon us in the past year,—in particular for the health of my mother, whom I had never known to be well,—and for His goodness in giving to a world in need a saintly woman, so inspired, as Mrs. Eddy was, as to be able to teach us the truth she so clearly discerned. The Bible, Science and Health, and the Christian Science periodicals, are a never ending source of joy to me. I read them with a thirst that is never satisfied, and always with the hope that I may also help mankind, as do the loving practitioners who have so helped us.—(Miss) Alison Burt, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
