Christian Science thoroughly agrees with the view that cheerfulness, courage, hopefulness, and confidence in that which is right and good are to be commended and encouraged on every hand. It steadily presents the thought that whatever we have to do may be done in God's way more quickly and satisfactorily than in any other manner, and with the additional incentive that no one can be injured thereby. What Christian Science regards as the "common sense" way is God's way, as revealed through Christ. Blind faith or superstition, lacking a demonstrable knowledge of God, is an element of the so-called human mind, which is not the Mind of Christ. Christian Science is the law of God, by which the activity of the infinite One is to be seen in operation in the affairs of His children. By understanding God as Christ Jesus taught and proved Him to be, and by loving obedience to His law, we naturally and unfailingly come within the range of that activity, and ex perience the love, health, and peace which are so bountifully bestowed thereby.

Instead of merely repeating certain sentences or words, with the hope of bringing into one's experience that which the human mind may think is good, Christian Science brings out the necessity of living that which is spiritually true; and Christ Jesus said, "All these things shall be added unto you." In the first epistle of John we read, "And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: and if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him." This assurance is conditional on our asking "according to his will," not according to the human sense of goodness. In keeping with this idea Mary Baker Eddy has written in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 1), "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love." This heals functional and organic disease.
