About sixteen years ago my mother was healed through Christian Science of a tubercular condition of her instep which had kept her a cripple some eight years; and as a result of this healing I began to have treatment when any ailments appeared, and also to read the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Immediate results were the healing of rupture and a general improvement in my health, which up to that time had been poor. I was not allowed by the doctor to go to school at the usual age on account of my indifferent physical condition. It transpired sometime after this that I had to be medically examined for entrance to a school, and the physician pronounced my lungs to be weak. This condition was healed through Science; and at the next medical examination I underwent, some years later on attesting for army service, I was passed as fit for general service. The effects of an accident, which threatened the sight of one eye, were successfully overcome by treatment, my eyes being subsequently commented upon by an oculist as unusually strong. What is termed a structural defect in vision, however, has yet to be overcome.

I am particularly grateful for the indispensable help I received from the knowledge and study of Christian Science during my term of army service in France. It enabled me to overcome fear entirely. This to me was a big demonstration, for as a child I was most fearful. Moreover, the truth of that verse in the ninety-first psalm beginning, "There shall no evil befall thee," was proved time and again. Instances of shells dropping close at hand were numerous; and invariably those coming nearest failed to explode. It is impossible here to detail the numberless occasions when the protecting power and guidance of divine Love, which the study of Christian Science reveals more and more, were manifest. It can only be recorded that the protection afforded was complete and unfailing; also, just as a knowledge of Science is a preventive in the presence of seeming disease conditions, so one is protected from experiencing the horrors mortal mind constantly suggests as present.

The foundation of this knowledge, which proved so helpful, was gained largely during the period when I attended the Christian Science Sunday School; and I am very grateful to have had the privilege of attendance there. Since I returned to civil life the great privilege of class instruction has been mine, bringing more constant realization of the necessity of implicit obedience to divine Principle, and of waiting for that Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus" to guide in all the problems of everyday life. This has brought an increased desire to follow obediently our great Leader's teachings, contained in our textbook and the Manual of The Mother Church, and also in her other writings.
