We who have learned the power of Truth, as revealed by...

We who have learned the power of Truth, as revealed by Christian Science, know that everything good that comes to us is a demonstration, for in the words of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 34), "demonstration is Immanuel, or God with us;" and the Bible tells us God is good. Before learning this I found it an effort to think for what I was grateful, but now I have begun to learn what true gratitude is; and if Christian Science had taught me nothing but this, I could indeed give praise. However, like all Christian Scientists, I have so much to be grateful for that I hardly know of what to tell.

My husband, who is an aviator, was training the Canadians for duty overseas. One Sunday morning at church, during the Lesson-Sermon, the thought came to me that my husband was falling, so I went to work to know that God protects all His children, and that man, reflecting divine intelligence, knows what to do in any emergency. I was soon able to listen again to the Lesson. Upon reaching the island where we lived, one of the boys greeted me with the word of how very near my husband had come to being killed; and upon asking the hour of the accident I found it corresponded to the time the thought had come to me. My husband said he had lost control and had tried everything he could think of without success. He had almost given up hope when a thought came to him as to what to do, and upon doing it he again gained control. He was so near the water before breaking the fall that he landed with such force both his feet went through the floor of the boat. This was only one of the protections realized during nearly five years of constant flying; and I have never ceased to feel, grateful that I had the understanding, and could have the help to eliminate fear.

A recent proof of God's help was in an experience during the use of a washing machine. My hand was caught in the electric wringer, which was screwed down tightly, and went through to the wrist. I reversed the wringer; and the hand went through a second time before it was released. The pain was intense, and my hand absolutely numb; but after sitting down for a few seconds I was able to telephone to a Christian Science practitioner and return immediately to my washing. One nail was badly bruised, and one finger was uncomfortable for a few days. In talking to a bone specialist he seemed amazed at my statement that it had only pained at first, and inquired if there really had been no further pain.
