"Ready to distribute"

In the first epistle to Timothy, Paul charges "them that are rich in this world, ... that they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate." This charge may be profitably considered by Christian Scientists in their loving labor of distributing the good which has come into their experience through the study of Christian Science. While this service must, of course, be rendered under the impulsion of divine Mind, thought given to readiness for such work may prove helpful.

To be "ready to distribute" in Christian Science requires care and wisdom; and the work of distribution is not confined alone to the dissemination of our Christian Science literature, but embraces all the activities of the Christian Science organization. Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, has wisely made many provisions for the proper circulation of the truth of Christian Science, and, in so doing, gives us plenty of opportunity to be useful in this important work. At the same time and with these same provisions, she prevents in large measure the indiscriminate, and perhaps faulty, dissemination which might be involved in uninstructed personal effort.

First and foremost, she has supplied us with the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," of which she is the author. This textbook provides an effective means for making known the truth; for it contains a complete, correct, concise, and comprehensive statement of the subject. The healings recorded in the chapter entitled "Fruitage," resulting from the sincere study of this book, afford proof of its availability for the purposes of distribution. Mrs. Eddy further provided other writings. She established The Mother Church organization, with its branch churches and societies; The Christian Science Publishing Society with its literature; the Board of Lectureship; the Board of Education; the Committee on Publication; and, indeed, all the agencies of The Mother Church, to impart to this age a correct understanding of Christian Science, and to prevent its adulteration. Loyal support of these activities in their work of circulating the truth signifies a consciousness alert to duty and "ready to distribute." One must be faithful, likewise, to the church services, the Sunday school, the Reading Room, the various church committees and the duties involved, if one would be ready to share in these wise provisions for imparting the truth.
