Words will never be able to express adequately my gratitude...

Words will never be able to express adequately my gratitude for Christian Science and for all the good that has come, and is being brought, into my experience through its beneficent ministrations. From early years a seeker for Truth, I was beginning to feel gravely disappointed, and not a little distressed, on finding various avenues of material investigation to be but culs-de-sac, when Christian Science came with its illumination and blessing to show the way.

It was the latter part of the title of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, that made the first appeal. I had had an increasing desire to know the real message of the Biblical writings, feeling somewhat vaguely that a true understanding thereof would greatly help towards the elucidation of the problems of being that then seemed to be harassing me. The textbook did not prove to be in form quite the kind of "key" I at the time was looking for; but as I continued its study, I found it more than I could ever have anticipated—a true "key," unlocking the treasures of the Book of Life, and so unfolding "the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life" (Science and Health, p. 497).

At first I had no thought of any mundane benefits as accruing from the study of Christian Science. But opportunities quickly presented themselves to test and apply its teachings; and I rejoice, as experience deepens, to find more and more of the minutiæ of daily doings coming under the freedom of "the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus." At the very outset I was immediately delivered from the hard bondage of daily dosing with some drug or other, which previously had appeared necessary; and I can recall the sense of welling thankfulness that filled me when the fact of this healing was realized. Some demonstrations have been instantaneous, notably the nullifying of a severe attack of seasickness by glimpsing something of what is involved when Principle is used as a synonym for God. Many demonstrations have been speedy, as in the overcoming of scalds, influenza, and effects of falls; but some have seemed to take a long time. One cannot but cherish the fragrant memory of the quicker healings, and the spiritual uplift and inspiration which came with them; yet one would not wish to be spared the experience of those that were slower, for always there has been an appropriate lesson to learn which, when learned, has brought encouragement, further progress, and deep thankfulness.
