The Crowds

"For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea."—Isaiah 11:9.

So many faces pass me in the crowd—
And some seem wan and weary, troubled, sad,
And others, cold, indifferent, or proud,
And some, alas! I should have once called bad.

Ah, yes! I once believed them as they seem,
And sorrowed for them as they passed my way;
But now, calm, undeceived, I know they dream,
And will awake to their real selves one day!

And how I thank Thee, Lord, that all must know
That they are Thine, and Love is ne'er afar;
And so these crowds may hear now as they go,
"Come unto me,"—learn what God's children are.
