The first healing I experienced in Christian Science was that of defective eyesight. My eyes had been thoroughly tested by a reputable oculist and glasses prescribed, to be worn constantly. Several months after this, upon my first reading of the Preface to our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, an instantaneous healing of this trouble was experienced; and my sight ever since has been better than since childhood. I have learned that sight is spiritual. Chronic constipation and fallen arches, both of several years' standing, were next to be destroyed through spiritual understanding gained by persistent study of our textbook.

These first healings occurred in the fall of the year 1915. Three years later, I was starting to get off a car, when the switch engine jerked it, throwing me and causing serious injury. I treated myself, as we are taught to do in Christian Science, until noon the next day, when I reached home and had a practitioner take charge of the case. Through her work in Science all pain ceased in less than an hour. A neighbor who called had witnessed a similar injury, and expressed the belief that it would be at least two or three months before I should be up and around. The doctor who was called to fill out the certificate required by the company employing me, wanted to put down six weeks as the minimum length of my probable disability; but when told I was having Christian Science treatment he consented to put down a lesser time. Through the faithful work of the practitioner I was able to, and did, return to work just fifteen days after the injury took place. I have experienced many other healings through her help.

Our daughter, now four years old, has never known the use of material remedies of any kind. Several times, when symptoms of sickness have been manifested, she has been quickly healed through the practitioner's help. Once, when she was two years old, she became separated from her mother and me, down town in a large city. She was found several blocks away, safe and happy; and it was through the practitioner's understanding and Science work that she was safely and quickly returned to us. She now attends the Christian Science Sunday School and assimilates the truth rapidly. Both my wife and I have experienced attacks of influenza, but they were quickly destroyed through the practitioner's help.
