In the year 1914 I became interested in Christian Science

In the year 1914 I became interested in Christian Science. I had been troubled about the Bible not being applicable to my daily needs. Early in my teens I became a member of a church. I searched religions and so-called cults, but nothing satisfied me. I had had poor health always, but had not thought of a religion to cure me. I had a longing to understand the Bible and to be close to God.

In April I knelt and prayed God that He would lead me to a religion whereby I could understand the Bible and Christ Jesus. I shall never forget the calm peace which came over me. I awoke during the night with that same sense of illumination and peace. The next morning I went to work, having a happiness which I had never before experienced. A gentleman came into the office whom I knew to be a Christian Scientist. I knew nothing of Christian Science; I do not believe I had heard it mentioned more than a dozen times, but I asked him to tell me something of it. He sent me to a practitioner's office. During her talk I was healed of an internal trouble that I had had for several years, said to have been caused from exposure to the weather. I had been under the care of a physician until about three weeks previous to my healing, when I had dropped the physician and was using a home remedy which gave me very little relief. I visited the Christian Science practitioner every Saturday a little after three, and for weeks stayed until six, not knowing that her office hours were until four, and that there was a charge for treatment.

About three months after this my mother developed a felon on her thumb, and our family physician said it would have to take its course. I asked her if she would not have Christian Science treatment. She consented, and was healed, with no after sensitiveness, which sometimes lasts for years. Through this healing a neighbor with a family of eight sought help in Christian Science. We have had many blessings and healings in our home; and I myself especially, for I had such poor health. Among the blessings for which I am most grateful is the fact that I was taught from the beginning to study the Manual of The Mother Church and thereby to learn to love obedience. I have had the privilege of class instruction, and also of being a worker in a local Christian Science church, whereby one grows. Besides all these I want to express my gratitude to God and to Christ Jesus; also to our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and to the practitioner who has done so much for me.
