"Wisdom, economy, and brotherly love"

Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, tells us in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 13), "God knows our need before we tell Him." The truth of this statement is easily understood, when we realize that since God made man, He must also have provided everything that man needs.

Demand and supply go hand in hand; where a demand is there is also the supply to meet it. Lack of supply could never exist in God's creation, for God's work is complete; and to be so, every need must be provided for. Therefore, the only place where lack seems to be is in a belief in a power opposed to God. The way to destroy this seeming power or belief is to educate the one who entertains it out of believing it to be true or as having existence.

The belief that money is necessary in order to pay for our daily needs has been emphasized to such an extent that money has become one of the false gods which mortals worship. It has been called "the almighty dollar." To dethrone this false god, to bring mortals to worship the only true and living God, the Giver of all good, is one of the things which Christian Science is here to fulfill, and is fulfilling. Mrs. Eddy refers to "love currency" in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 14); and a definition of "currency" is "a continual passing from hand to hand." Knowing that divine Love controls all, we are surely spiritualizing our thought about supply; and we find that money is not the source, but simply one of the means through which our present human needs seem to be met.
