The basis of Christian Science is the perfection and allness...

Idaho Statesman

The basis of Christian Science is the perfection and allness of God and His creation; and it is the knowledge of these facts and of the consequent facts that all error or evil is unreal and powerless, which accomplishes the healing. To illustrate: A knowledge that two times two is four destroys the belief that the product is or can be any other number. Likewise, the knowledge that God is all good, all power, and the only creator, and that man is created by God in His own image and likeness, as the Bible declares, brings the resulting assurance and understanding that sin and disease—all evil—are untrue and unreal; and it is this understanding, based wholly upon the irrefutable laws of divine Principle, which heals the sick. The same process of reasoning is applied in the latter as in the former illustration; and it is plain that autosuggestion is not used in either case. Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

Real freedom comes in knowing, not believing. Christian Science teaches that human will-power, from which comes all suggestion, is capable of evil as well as good, and cannot be used in the practice of pure metaphysics. This is made plain by Mrs. Eddy on page 144 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," where she says, "Truth, and not corporeal will, is the divine power which says to disease, 'Peace, be still.'"
