I wish to express my gratitude for some of the blessings...

I wish to express my gratitude for some of the blessings which have come to me through Christian Science. At the time I began to study the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I was living in a school in the north of England. One night an unexpected fire-alarm signal was given, and the sudden shock of hastily rising seemed to affect my heart and sight. After that night I experienced these attacks very frequently; but I relied on the little understanding I had of Christian Science, and was enabled to carry on whatever duties I had. For some time I thought the rest in the long summer holidays would benefit me; but, instead, I grew worse; and this taught me not to rely on anything but Truth for healing. I asked a Christian Scientist to give me absent treatment; and in three months I was absolutely healed. I feel intensely grateful for the healing, but far more so for the lessons I learned during this time, and for the gradual transformation of character which it brought. Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 375), "The genuine Christian Scientist is adding to his patient's mental and moral power, and is increasing his patient's spirituality while restoring him physically through divine Love;" and that was my experience.

This first healing occurred more than ten years ago; and during these years Christian Science has helped me in every time of need. It has healed me of a physical ailment in a very severe form, influenza, and of many other troubles which have arisen. Christian Science has been of daily help to me as a teacher of music, and has overcome discouragement and depression; also irritability when teaching, which used to spoil my work. I now see that this mental condition was entirely due to the material, unsatisfactory view I had of life. The truth as revealed by our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, has lifted this cloud of ignorance, and brought great happiness to me. For these blessings I can never adequately express my gratitude in words.
