With the desire to help others who may be suffering as I was, I am led to write something of a healing I experienced in Christian Science from a severe condition of heart disease. I sought help from physicians, but was given no hope by the ablest medical authorities I could reach; and after being under their care and depending on drugs for nearly a year, I was sent to Florida, being assured that I could not resist the cold of another western New York winter. My wife accompanied me. When we returned the following spring I found myself no better, but rather worse, my weight having become less than it had been at any time since boyhood.

Some friends spoke to me of Christian Science, but I was greatly prejudiced against what I had been taught to believe was an utter sham, and wholly unchristian. I was, however, given some Christian Science literature and asked to read it. This I grudgingly consented to do, with the result that I became interested, especially in some of the testimonies in the periodicals.

A friend then gave me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy; and as I began reading the first chapter, that beautiful chapter on Prayer, I was conscious of a new light being thrown upon the Scriptures, especially upon the teachings of Jesus, such as I had never known before, although I had been a sincere student of the Bible and teacher of a class in the Sunday school. I read the book through, though in a mood so critical as to miss its greater spiritual truths; nevertheless, divine Love did open my understanding in the largest degree possible to my prejudiced and bigoted thought.
