Christian Science is practical, spiritual Christianity

Vindicator

Christian Science is practical, spiritual Christianity. It reveals the God of the Holy Scriptures as the only cause and creator of the universe, inclusive of man. In Proverbs the writer admonishes us: "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." The earnest seeker for Truth in Christian Science is able to follow this admonition, and as a result is finding the highway to health and holiness. One must entirely give up all resort to the various methods and theories of the human so-called mind if he would touch the garment of spiritual healing. The use of suggestion would never be resorted to by the student who understands through Christian Science that he can intelligently rely on God for all good and all help, and receive such good and help proportionably to his intelligent reliance.

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 23) Mrs. Eddy has said of faith: "Faith, if it be mere belief, is as a pendulum swinging between nothing and something, having no fixity. Faith, advanced to spiritual understanding, is the evidence gained from Spirit, which rebukes sin of every kind and establishes the claims of God." And on page 297 of the same book she again states, "Until belief becomes faith, and faith becomes spiritual understanding, human thought has little relation to the actual or divine." Christian Science teaches that faith born in human consciousness is a transitory quality, and that it is eventually supplanted by spiritual understanding. Christian Science is not new, because it is the religion of Christ Jesus. Christian Science is susceptible of proof. The ability to heal by its means can be gained only by working from a purely Christian standpoint. When Christian Science is sufficiently understood, it will be seen that there is nothing in its teachings and practice which differs in the least from the teachings and practice of the prophets, of Jesus, and of the apostles.
