[Written for the Sentinel]

"Stretch forth thine hand"

And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.—Matt. 12:13.

"Stretch forth thine hand"!
Man is not bidden to receive
Or sin or sorrow, pain or fear;
Our God is not a God afar;
His ever-presence dwelleth near,
And blesses all.

"Stretch forth thine hand"!
'Tis He alone can recompense
The holy thought that prompted thee
To seek the light, the way, the truth
That sets His children wholly free,
And leads them on.

"Stretch forth thine hand"!
Naught can reverse the will of God;
Doubt not, O man! His way is best.
That which to thy false mortal sense
Seemed withered, helpless, sore distressed,
Is whole again.
