About two and a half years ago I was startled by an ever increasing deafness. One ear drum was punctured, and the other distended. I was under the treatment of two specialists for several months without obtaining any results. At about this time, like many others whose prejudices and criticisms are based upon ignorance, I was prone to ridicule the idea of resorting to remedies as vaporous as spiritual things seemed to be; but when the healing of a friend through Christian Science was brought to my notice, I purchased a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, with the intention of reading it to satisfy my curiosity. I had not read far when it dawned upon me that I was already in eternity, that I did not have to die to live, and that it was not true that perfection was obtained by passing from this present state of existence; therefore the sooner I began to work out my own salvation the better. I was also convinced that I had found the way to Truth. It is needless to say that Christian Science has been the dominant factor in my mental activities ever since. The destruction of the belief that our Father is a God of vengeance, and that perhaps we might not be found worthy to enter that place called heaven is another healing of magnitude which I experienced, and which calls for gratitude, because my greatest fear is thereby dissolved. Within four months my hearing became normal, and has remained so. I am not concerned as to the present condition of the drums. I now hear well; that is sufficient; and I am grateful.
