All who are familiar with the teachings of Christian Science...

All who are familiar with the teachings of Christian Science know that it is the very opposite of mental suggestion, autosuggestion, mesmerism, or such like. The fad which is being given so much space in the press to-day is practically nothing more than the almost universal tendency to yield to the thoughts and persuasions of others; that is, to their suggestions. Christian Science is based upon the teaching of the Bible and its spiritual interpretation. It teaches reliance upon God and not upon self; it teaches us not to look to the physical senses for evidence of health and harmony, or to rely upon some suppositional mystical or occult power within ourselves, but to appeal to the divine source outside ourselves. In other words, it is the Science which Jesus knew so perfectly as he went about healing "all manner of disease among the people." Mrs. Eddy places the whole of Christian Science teaching on this broad spiritual basis when she says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 262): "We cannot fathom the nature and quality of God's creation by diving into the shallows of mortal belief. We must reverse our feeble flutterings—our efforts to find life and truth in matter—and rise above the testimony of the material senses, above the mortal to the immortal idea of God. These clearer, higher views inspire the Godlike man to reach the absolute centre and circumference of his being."
