The fact that adherents of Christian Science obey the precepts of Christ Jesus and daily demonstrate their Christianity in the way the Master taught, healing the sick, reforming the sinner, and otherwise ministering in a practical manner to their brethren's need, has made a profound impression on the Christian ministry and has come to be accepted as irrefutable proof that Christian Science is both Christian and scientific in its teaching and practice. A further indication of this is found in a recent statement of the Rev. Henry H. Barstow, as reported in the Auburn Citizen: "They [Christian Scientists] have rescued from the theological junk-heap the great fundamental religious truth that God is the All-Spirit. They have shown that the basis of a religious life is not ceremonies nor creeds nor church machinery but the human spirit in living contact with the divine Spirit. They have taken the truth, . . . and set it to work healing human bodies in no small measure, but especially healing sin-bruised and fear-ridden human hearts. We all owe them a debt of gratitude for this service." Many statements of a like character could be quoted to show that a substantial wing of the Christian clergy still accepts and respects the criterion established by the great Exemplar when he said, "By their fruits ye shall know them."

Our critic is quoted as saying that science and theology are constantly undergoing a change. Certainly he would not have us believe that the Science and religions taught and practiced by Jesus is subject to change. If this were true, the whole structure of Christianity would fall of its own weakness. Fortunately for mankind, Jesus demonstrated beyond the possibility of refutation that his teachings based on an eternal, divine Principle, were absolutely scientific in their character and mode of application and as unchangeable as Principle itself. In explaining her use of the terms Christian and Science, Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, says in her book "No and Yes" (p. 10): "The two largest words in the vocabulary of thought are 'Christian' and 'Science.' The former is the highest style of man; the latter reveals and interprets God and man; it aggregates, amplifies, unfolds, and expresses the All-God. The life of Christ is the predicate and postulate of all that I teach, and there is but one standard statement, one rule, and one Principle for all scientific truth."
